SPACE TIME is happy to present an expanded cinema performance by Lea Bertucci with projections by Ed Bear (both touring from New York). San Diego composer Anthony Vine will collaborate with Michael Matsuno to perform a new piece for electric guitar, flute, violin, and cassette players, along with multi-channel video by Katy Gilmore.

Lea Bertucci is an American composer and performer whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. In addition to her instrumental practice, (alto saxophone and bass clarinet), her work often incorporates multi-channel speaker arrays, electroacoustic feedback, extended instrumental technique and tape collage. Deeply experimental, her work is unafraid to subvert musical expectation.
Her discography includes a number of solo and collaborative releases on independent labels and in 2018, will release the critically acclaimed Metal Aether on NNA tapes, as well as a commission for percussion ensemble Tigue and a second edition of her much anticipated graphic score book, The Tonebook, on Inpatient Press.
She has performed extensively across the US and Europe with presenters such as The Kitchen, PS1 MoMA, Blank Forms, The Walker Museum, Roulette, ESS Chicago, Sound of Stockholm Festival, and the Le Guess Who Festival. She is a 2016 MacDowell Fellow in composition and a 2015 ISSUE Project Room Artist-in-Residence.

Anthony Vine (b. 1988) is a composer and guitarist currently living in San Diego, California. His work is characterized by a pluralistic approach to tuning and harmony, exploring the intersections between spectral techniques, just-intonation, and other temperaments. These tones are cast in immersive forms, and projected by acoustic instruments and simple wave forms. The music attempts to engage a reflexive mode of listening, wherein one takes notice of their own perceptual faculties, and begins to perceive themselves listening.
He has collaborated with a number of ensembles and musicians, including Alarm Will Sound, Bearthoven, Bozzini Quartet, Ensemble Modelo62, Ensemble SurPlus, Minnesota Orchestra, Trio SurPlus, Will Lang, Yarn/Wire, and his exceptional colleagues at UCSD. These works have been presented at Copland House, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Musiikin Aika, Schloss Solitude, and Ultima Festival. His music has been recorded and released on Cantaloupe Music and Galtta Media.
In 2016, he was awarded the Gaudeamus Prize. The jury noted, "Anthony Vine creates a solid, mature, beautifully crafted fragile sound world. He knows how to blur the identity of the different sources of sounds including the use of electronics in a very singular way." Other awards and honors include the 2018 John J. Cali String Quartet Composition Award, 2015 Jerome Fund Commissioning Award, 2015 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award (2nd place), and NPR/Q2 Radio Top Composers under 40 (2011).
Vine is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in music composition at the University of California, San Diego.
